Phantom controlled by the K Locus

The beautiful Phantom pattern in Toy Poodles is primarily controlled by the K locus, specifically when a dog inherits two copies of the recessive ky allele (ky/ky). This allows the agouti (A) locus to be expressed. When a dog also carries the at allele at the A locus, the classic Phantom pattern develops, producing distinct tan, cream, apricot, or red points above the eyes, on the muzzle, chest, legs, and under the tail. These markings create the striking two-tone appearance that makes Phantom Toy Poodles so unique and desirable.
